Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada Institute Of Socio-Economic Research & National Integration
i) Marathwada vision 2020: This is a futuristic study of the region, covering about twenty sub-sectors of development. The object is to identify the present status, future potential, possible constraints and actions needed both from the government and the people to overcome the constraints and to achieve the targets. The object is to generate the required action thrusts among the people at the grass root levels. The proposal, therefore, is to bring out the findings on each sub-sector of development in pocket size booklets written in simple Marathi and sold at low prices affordable at the grass root levels. Researching authors have been identified for all sub-sectors and the SRTMRI expects to publish at least six booklets of the series during the year.
ii) Village Level Planning: It is observed that in spite of so much talk on village planning,
the ideas on its scope, coverage, agencies and formats continue to be vague. With a view to have a breakthrough and to identify the underlying problems,
the SRTMRI has decided to undertake planning work to provide models of eight villages selected one each from the eight districts of Marathwada.
The SRTMRI proposes to select villages, remote villages, DPAP Villages and Villages from irrigated commands etc. So that together they are useful
as models of planning in all possible situations.
SRTMRI parent body at Hyderabad has extended support for this project. The institute expects to complete planning work of at least four villages during the year
iii) Work on a fresh survey of technical education in Marathwada is to be undertaken through Dr. B. M. Naik retired Principal Of The Government Engineering College At Nanded. Technical education is a matter expressly covered in article 371(2) of the constitution of India.
iv) Impact of women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) on the standard of living of women is being studied in the Jalana Taluka of Jalana District.
v) The SRTMRI has under consideration a proposal to set up a training cum-demonstration center for farmers for cultivation and marketing of medicinal plants.
